Police are investigating two separate shootings that took place within blocks of each other in the Washington neighborhood Sunday night, leaving two men hospitalized, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Around 9:45 p.m. Sunday, officers were dispatched to a local hospital regarding a shooting victim, according to the LBPD. The wounded man told police that he was walking near an alley in the 1700 block of Tribune Court when a dark-colored sedan with an unknown number of passengers approached him and shot a firearm in his direction.

Police say a good Samaritan took the man to a local hospital where he was being treated for non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to the lower body.

Two blocks away at around 10:32 p.m., officers responded to a second shooting, which occurred in the 1700 block of Pacific Avenue, and found a man suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the lower body.

The victim told police he was standing on a balcony near an alley on the 1700 block of Pacific Avenue when a man walking in the alley below made comments towards him and shot a gun in his direction. The Long Beach Fire Department transported the victim to a local hospital where he was being treated for his injuries.

In both instances, the suspects fled in an unknown direction before officers arrived. At this time, the motive for either shooting is unknown, police said.
