Police say they’re investigating a shooting near Veterans Stadium in East Long Beach that wounded a man and a woman Thursday night.
The shooting was reported just after 8 p.m., according to Long Beach Police Department Lt. Danielle Quinones.
According to police, the man and the woman were involved in an argument with someone they know in the 5100 block of Brockwood Street, which is in the neighborhood just east of Veterans Stadium. As the man and woman were attempting to drive away, that person shot them, police said.
The victims proceeded to drive southbound before eventually pulling over at Wardlow Road and Clark Avenue in an effort to wave someone down for help, according to authorities.
This caused a minor traffic collision, police said. The driver involved in the collision noticed the victim’s gunshot wounds and called police, according to authorities.
Both victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment, police said. The woman, who was shot in the upper body, was in critical but stable condition while the man, who was shot in the upper extremities, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Quinones said.
Police described the suspect as a man who fled the scene of the shooting in a silver SUV.
