A man was shot and wounded early Monday morning while he was sitting in a car in North Long Beach, and police are still trying to track down the gunman, according to authorities.

The car was in on Gale Avenue near 70th Street when a man started firing rounds into the car around 2:20 a.m., Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman Nancy Pratt said.

When officers arrived, they found the wounded man in the car, and paramedics took him to the hospital with serious injuries, Pratt said. He’d been shot multiple times in the upper body, according to Pratt.

Police said they’re unsure if the victim and gunman know each other. Detectives are still trying to determine a motive for the shooting, Pratt said.

Police asked anyone with information to contact Det. Joe Pirooz at 562-570-7370. Anyone who wants to remain anonymous can submit tips through Los Angeles Regional Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS or visiting lacrimestoppers.org.
