Two men were walking in Long Beach’s Willmore district early Thursday morning when one of them was shot without warning, according to authorities.

The man was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive, police said. The incident happened around 12:55 a.m. near Cedar Avenue and Ninth Street, authorities said.

“According to one of the victims, both victims were walking northbound on Cedar Ave. when they heard shots fired and one victim felt a gunshot to his lower torso,” LBPD spokeswoman Jennifer De Prez said.

Any suspects fled before officers arrived, according to police, who said they didn’t have any description available of the shooter or shooters.

Detectives are still investigating.
