A trio of attackers stabbed a 28-year-old man and then took his car during a drug deal that turned violent Monday night in Central Long Beach, according to police.

Police said the victim was driving his car around 9 p.m., and one of the people who was about to attack was riding with him. They were headed to the 1900 block of Atlantic Avenue to “engage in an illegal drug purchase,” Long Beach police spokeswoman Emily Garcia said.

“When they arrived, the victim was approached by two additional male adult suspects. The suspects then assaulted the victim and the stabbing occurred,” Garcia said.

The three attackers then drove off in the victim’s car, leaving him stabbed in the upper body, Garcia said. Medics later took him to the hospital in stable condition, she said.

Police found the victim’s empty car about a mile away near Pasadena Avenue and Burnett Street, but they’re still looking for the attackers, according to Garcia.

A detailed description of them wasn’t immediately available.

Detectives asked anyone with information about the crime to call 562-570-7464 or submit an anonymous tip by calling 1-800-222-TIPS or visiting lacrimestoppers.org.
