A man is still in critical condition after he was stabbed during a fight in an East Long Beach Vons parking lot on Sunday afternoon, police said.

Police were called to the scene at about 2 p.m. and found a man with stab wounds to his upper body, police spokeswoman Shaunna Dandoy said. Paramedics took the victim to a local hospital in critical condition.

Video of the incident shows two men arguing and fighting in the parking lot of the Vons at the Traffic Circle before one of them hits or stabs the other in the head.

Long Beach police later picked up a possible suspect at the Compton Sheriff’s station after he turned himself in. The 36-year-old Compton man, Major White Jr., was arrested on suspicion for assault with a deadly weapon and was released on bond on Tuesday, Dandoy said.

“The incident was investigated as gang related and preliminary information revealed the suspect and victim got into a physical altercation that led to the stabbing,” she said.

The Los Angeles District Attorney’s office filed one count of assault with a deadly weapon, not a firearm against White.
