Police are looking for two men suspected of fleeing the scene after one of them crashed into a pedestrian during a street race in West Long Beach.

One of the men was driving a gray Dodge Challenger when he hit a pedestrian on Cowles Street between Seabright Avenue and Hayes Avenue, police said. The other man drove a red Ford Mustang during the incident, which happened around 8:10 p.m. on May 26, according to authorities.

The pedestrian, a 32-year-old Long Beach man, was taken by paramedics to a local hospital in critical condition, police said.

Authorities believe the drivers were “involved in an exhibition of speed,” police spokeswoman Arantxa Chavarria said.

Police ask that anyone with information about this incident call Det David Lauro at 562-570-7355.
