Police are investigating an incident in which a gunman shot a man and pistol-whipped a woman in North Long Beach Wednesday night.

Officers responded around 7:45 p.m. to the area of 59th Street and Linden Avenue in the city’s DeForest Park neighborhood after someone reported the shooting, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Upon arrival, the officers located the man, who was suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body, and his partner, a woman who had minor injuries to the upper body, police said.

The man told authorities that he and his partner were in the area visiting an acquaintance when an argument broke out, the LBPD said. The argument escalated and the acquaintance shot the man, pistol-whipped the woman, and then fled the scene, police said.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported the man to a local hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening, authorities said.

No further suspect information was available, and the investigation is ongoing.
