A man wanted on weapons charges was arrested Wednesday afternoon after leading police on a pursuit through the streets of Long Beach.

Authorities began chasing the suspect after observing him near 10th Street and Long Beach Boulevard at about 3:35PM and discovering he had a no bail warrant for weapons charges.

When an officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the suspect failed to stop, initiating a pursuit, said Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) spokeswoman Arantxa Chavarria.

During the chase, spike strips were deployed, but failed to immediately disable the vehicle. Due to his “erratic and unsafe driving”, authorities said they ended the pursuit but kept him under surveillance with LBPD’s helicopter.

The suspect was eventually taken into custody without incident at 4:35PM after he drove into an alley near 14th Street and Cedar Avenue and stepped out of the vehicle.

No one was injured, Chavarria said.

The suspect will be booked on the warrant as well as other traffic-related charges.
