Long Beach police have arrested two suspects in a fatal shooting that took place near a taco truck on the corner of Magnolia Avenue and Anaheim Street on Dec. 4, the department announced today.

Jacquise Wright, 31, and Tyquan Benson, 25, both residents of Long Beach, were arrested on suspicion of murder and are currently held at the Long Beach Jail, police said. Their bail was set at $2 million each.

The victim of the shooting, 36-year-old Alejandra Elizabeth Martinez, was among a group of people waiting for their food orders around 11:20 p.m. when one suspect began firing, according to police. A second person returned fire from the parking lot, the LBPD said.

Police said they think a “gang-related dispute” prompted the gunfire.

Martinez, as well as a 17-year-old girl, were hit and transported to a local hospital, according to police. Detectives don’t believe they were the intended targets.

Martinez later died at the hospital.

Although the shooting is being investigated as gang-related, Martinez is not suspected of being affiliated with a gang herself.

The LBPD defines gang-related crimes as any crime committed “for the benefit of, at the direction of or in association with any criminal street gang.”
