Police on Tuesday arrested a Huntington Beach teacher and Long Beach resident on suspicion of sexually assaulting a boy over the course of six months in 2017, authorities said.

Detectives believe there may be more victims.

Andrew Bueno Potts, 43, a teacher at Ocean View High School in Huntington Beach, was arrested at his home in Long Beach after a 17-year-old boy reported in July of four separate incidents of sexual assault and attempted sexual assault between July and December 2017, police said in a news release.

“Potts met the victim when the victim attended a school function hosted by Ocean View High School,” according to the release. “The suspect befriended the victim, and eventually took the victim in to live with him.”

Police say Potts would give the victim, who is not a student at Ocean View, alcohol and alkyl nitrate, a chemical sometimes used as a euphoric inhalant, before assaulting the victim. Potts allegedly assaulted the boy once in San Francisco, twice in his home and attempted another assault in his home.

Potts is being held on a $500,000 bail on charges including sodomy of a person under 18, sex with foreign object of a person under 18, oral copulation of a person under 18, harmful material sent to a minor, sodomy and sexual battery.

“Detectives believe additional victims may exist and are strongly encouraging anyone who may have been victimized to come forward,” according to the news release.
