Sheriff’s deputies arrested five teenagers suspected of sticking up a string of donut shops in East Long Beach, Whittier, La Habra and La Mirada early Monday morning.

Authorities said they took the teens into custody not long after a robbery at a La Mirada donut shop in the 15700 block of Imperial Highway around 4:24 this morning. They went into the store where one of them made it look like he had a handgun under his shirt before they demanded the cash in the register, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

“Fearing for his safety, the employee gave the suspect(s) an undisclosed amount of cash,” authorities from the Norwalk Sheriff’s Station said in a statement. “The suspects then ran out of the store and out of view.”

Shortly thereafter, a patrol sergeant spotted a group of five teenagers in a truck matching the suspects’ description, authorities said. Sheriff’s deputies detained them.

“The victim and surveillance video combined were able to positively identify all 5 suspects as being involved in the La Mirada donut shop robbery,” authorities said.

While sheriff’s deputies were investigating, the Long Beach Police Department, Whittier Police Department and La Habra Police Department all contacted them to say they’d also had donut shop robberies in their cities earlier that morning.

Long Beach police believe the group is responsible for holding up a donut shop on Spring Street near Palo Verde Avenue. Police did not provide the name of the shop, but there is a Yum Yum Donuts on that block.

“So far, the suspects have been positively identified by Long Beach PD and Whittier PD, with La Habra PD pending,” sheriff’s officials said.

All of the teenagers—one 18-year-old and four 17-year-olds—were arrested on suspicion of robbery, according to sheriff’s officials. The 18-year-old is from Long Beach, and the four 17-year-olds are from Long Beach, Carson and Whittier, authorities said.
