Police say two teenagers were killed in separate crashes over the weekend, one in downtown Long Beach and the other near El Dorado Park.
The first crash happened at about 10:08 p.m. Friday on Shoreline Drive just south of Ocean Boulevard, according to Long Beach police.
Authorities said a 16-year-old boy ran across lanes on Shoreline Drive near the access road to the Alamitos Beach parking lot and was struck by a 2026 Honda sedan, police said. He was identified as Carlos Estrada of Buena Park.
The Honda driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said, adding that speed, distracted driving, and impaired driving were not believed to be factors in the crash.
The second crash happened at about 6:53 p.m. on Spring Street and Karen Avenue.
Authorities said a 19-year-old man was riding a dirt bike westbound on Spring Street when a 2012 Lincoln SUV made a left turn in front of him, causing the rider to crash into the SUV. He was identified as Landen Lightfoot, of Lomita.
The SUV driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, who were looking into whether one of the vehicles was speeding prior to the crash, police said.
Long Beach has recorded 40 fatal crashes so far this year. That’s more than double the number of homicides. Long Beach is battling a stubborn rise in traffic deaths, which hit their highest total in more than 10 years in 2025.
