Three people were arrested and 19 were cited during a DUI checkpoint in North Long Beach over the weekend, police said.

During the operation in the area of Artesia Boulevard east of Cherry Avenue, between 7:00PM Saturday and 3:00AM Sunday, 475 vehicles passed through the checkpoint with 296 drivers screened by Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) officers.

Five standardized field sobriety tests were conducted, which resulted in two drivers being arrested for DUIs. One additional driver was arrested for a misdemeanor warrant.

The LBPD also issued 19 citations, including nine for unlicensed driving, four for drivers with suspended licenses and six for unsafe driving.

Funding for the DUI checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Safety Administration.
