Torrance police say they are seeking the public’s help to identify a man and a woman who assaulted a 7-Eleven worker after they stole beer, leaving him in a coma.

About 1:45 a.m. Saturday, the 49-year-old man was working at a 7-Eleven in the 1700 block of Sepulveda Boulevard, near Western Avenue, when a man and woman entered the store, took some beer, and fled without paying for it, according to Sgt. Alexander Martinez, the Torrance Police Department’s public information officer.

A photo released by the Torrance police shows the male suspect wearing a shirt with an “LB” Long Beach logo.

The victim pursued the suspects, and the suspects severely beat the victim in the head and body. The victim was left on the ground with a fractured skull, and is in a coma at a hospital, Martinez said.

The suspects are believed to have fled the scene southbound on Western Avenue in a silver or gray four-door vehicle, according to Martinez.

The first suspect is described as a man in his late-20s or early-30s, Martinez said. He was wearing a black T-shirt with an “LB” logo signifying Long Beach when stealing the beer and assaulting the worker, according to a photograph released by Torrance police.

The second suspect is described as a woman in her early-to-mid-20s, according to Martinez.

There is a third suspect described as a man in his mid-to-late-30s, but it is unclear what role he played in the assault.

Investigators circulated photographs of two of the suspects and encouraged anyone with knowledge about the case to contact the Torrance Police Department at 310-328-3456.
