Two men were injured and a vehicle was damaged during three separate gang-related shootings in Long Beach over the weekend, authorities said. All shootings occurred near MacArthur Park.

First Shooting

Officers were near Anaheim Street and Newport Avenue at about 12:30AM on Saturday, Aug. 28 when they heard gunshots being fired and a vehicle speeding from the area, according to Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) spokeswoman Nancy Pratt.

Police then pulled the vehicle over and were told by the occupants that they were driving by a business when an unknown person began shooting at their vehicle, Pratt said. Officers were able to find evidence that the vehicle was struck by gunfire. None of the occupants were injured.

Second Shooting

At 1:10AM on Sunday, Aug. 29, officers responded to a local hospital where a shooting victim walked in, Pratt said. The man told officers he was near 15th Street and Walnut Avenue when he was approached by a male subject who attempted to rob him and then shot him, she added.

The victim sustained a non-life threatening injury. Officers were not able to locate a crime scene.

Third Shooting

At 1:45AM, less than an hour after the second shooting and only a few blocks away, officers responded to a shots fired call near 15th Street and Gundry Avenue where they found a gunshot victim. The man was transported to a local hospital with a non-life threatening injury, Pratt said.

“According to the preliminary investigation, a vehicle drove by and fired upon the victim,” she said.

All three shootings are being investigated as possibly gang-related.
