UPDATE | Human remains found buried last week outside a Long Beach home have been identified as those of a man who went missing in October, authorities said today.

The remains discovered Thursday in the 500 block of West Eighth Street were those of 32-year-old Zach Kennedy of Long Beach, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

“A cause of death is still to be determined, and no arrest(s) have been made,” according to police.

5/3/18 at 3:46PM | Human remains, possibly those of a 32-year-old man reported missing in October 2017, were found following an excavation today on the property of a home in Long Beach, detectives said.

In October 2017, police received a missing person’s report for Zach Kennedy, according to Detective Scott Lasch of the Long Beach Police Department.

“Through relentless follow up in Kennedy’s disappearance, detectives learned that he was last seen at a residence in the 500 block of West Eighth Street, and was possibly buried on the property,” Lasch said.

Long Beach Man Still Missing Months After Reported Disappearance

Detectives began an excavation of the property Thursday and located what they believed to be the remains of a human body, he said.

A representative from the coroner’s office took possession of the remains and will determine a cause of death as well as identification, he said.
