UPDATE | A man suspected of fatally shooting another man early Sunday in a North Long Beach apartment where they both lived is being held on $2 million bail, authorities said.

Zaire El, 23, of Long Beach was arrested for the murder of a 33-year-old Long Beach man, according to a press release the Long Beach Police Department sent out Sunday afternoon, which said El also had an outstanding traffic warrant.

El was booked into Long Beach City Jail and being held on $2,000,619 bail.

Coroner’s officials identified the victim as Terrell Bryant, 33.

The incident was reported at 12:37 on Artesia Boulevard near Falcon Avenue.

Arriving officers found the victim with a gunshot wound to his upper torso and performed life-saving measures until Long Beach fire personnel arrived and pronounced him dead, according to the release.

Police located El shortly after arriving on the scene; a firearm was recovered by detectives.

Authorities said the victim and suspect lived together but are not aware of a motive for the shooting at this time.

8:35 a.m. | By City News Service | Police officers found a man shot dead Sunday morning in an apartment in Long Beach. A suspect has been detained.

Details are still sketchy, but officers were dispatched to an apartment in the 1500 block of Artesia Boulevard at 12:37 a.m. where the shooting victim was pronounced dead at the scene, said Long Beach police Lt. Michael Richens.

The shooting is not believed to be gang-related, Richens said.

“He (the suspect) is being detained. The investigation is still ongoing,” he said.
