A woman was hospitalized in critical condition today after she was shot near a North Long Beach park early Sunday.

Lakewood Sheriff’s deputies were alerted to the victim after she was taken to a hospital in Lakewood, authorities said. Deputies said she sustained a gunshot wound to her upper torso.

Long Beach police were alerted to the shooting by Lakewood deputies at about 1:45 a.m., spokeswoman Arantxa Chavarria said.

The shooting took place near 65th Street and White Avenue, near Coolidge Park in the Coolidge Triangle neighborhood of North Long Beach near the 91 and 710 freeways.
