A woman is expected to survive after being set on fire during an altercation with a man on Sunday afternoon, police said.

Police responded at about 1:23 p.m. in the 2500 block of E. 14th Street in the Zaferia area regarding a report of an assault with a deadly weapon, according to police spokesman Jennifer Arzola.

Police found the woman with non-life-threatening wounds to her upper torso, and fire officials transported her to a nearby hospital.

Police said the man and woman had been in a fight when the man sprayed an unknown fuel on the victim and ignited it.

It was unknown whether the man and woman knew each other. A motive remains under investigation, police said.
