A woman crossing the street was killed by a suspected hit-and-run driver Friday afternoon, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Police said the woman was in a crosswalk on Long Beach Boulevard at 68th Street when a man in a 2018 Chevrolet Camaro hit her in the far-right southbound lane around 12:16 p.m.
“The vehicle fled the scene; however, the driver returned approximately 40 minutes later,” police said in a statement.
Police arrested the driver, whom they identified as 65-year-old Eric Dewayne Moody, on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run. He was held on $50,000 bail.
Authorities haven’t publicly identified the woman as they work to notify her family.
“At this time, speed, distracted driving, and impaired driving do not appear to be factors in the collision,” police said.
