3:00PM | Detectives believe the woman fatally shot on Tuesday night in Bixby Knolls may have been committing a crime inside a resident’s home before the shooting occurred.

According to Deputy Chief David Hendricks, a man returned to his home to find the woman inside.

“What we believe happened at this time was the resident came home and possibly interrupted a crime in progress,” Hendricks said. “At some time, there was a shooting that took place and the suspect of the original crime, the woman, is deceased.”

Hendricks said the resident admitted to the shooting as an act of self-defense, and police have not made any arrests regarding the incident. As to whether or not anyone else was in the home with the man and woman is yet to be determined.

“We’re looking into the possibility of someone else being involved, but we don’t know just yet,” Hendricks said. “We haven’t made any arrests at this time,” he said. “We’re just sorting out what happened.”

The investigation is on-going and more information will be available as it comes.
