A woman was hospitalized after being shot by an unknown assailant while she walked with a group of people in Long Beach Sunday afternoon, according to authorities. Police are investigating the incident as possibly gang-related.

The group initially flagged down an officer at 12:55PM on the 400 block of East 10th Street, near St. Mary Medical Center, according to Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) spokeswoman Nancy Pratt. They informed the officer that, while walking in the area, they heard a gunshot and a woman within the group was struck in the lower torso by the gunfire.

Long Beach paramedics treated the victim and transported her to a local hospital with what appeared to be a non-life threatening injury, she said.

No suspects were seen.
