A woman was struck by gunfire late Saturday night in North Long Beach, authorities said.
Police were made aware of the shooting when they were dispatched to a local hospital at 11:40 p.m. regarding an assault with a deadly weapon report, said Long Beach police spokesman Alvino Herrera.
“When officers arrived, they learned that a female adult victim was being treated for non-life threatening injuries to her lower torso,” Herrera said. “The preliminary investigation indicated the victim was outside when she was struck by gunfire by an unknown suspect.”
The victim said she was injured near South Street and Atlantic Avenue but she could not provide any information on the shooter. When officers responded to the area they were able to find the crime scene, Herrera said.
Authorities do not know what type of gun was used in the shooting.
