A woman allegedly threatening to kill her husband with a hachet was arrested Saturday night after police officers shot at her to stop the domestic attack.

Long Beach Police Department was dispatached to the 1100 block of Walnut Ave. at around 11PM and arrived to find 33 year-old Melanie McGhee standing over her husband with a hatchet, preparing to attack him. According to a Department press release, when she didn’t heed police warnings to drop the weapon, an officer discharged his firearm, and she immediately surrendered without incident.

McGhee was booked for assault with a deadly weapon and attempted murder and is being held on $500,000 bail.

No one was injured in the shooting, which is the first officer-involved one to occur in Long Beach since an aggressive pitbull was shot and killed on May 1. As with all officer-involved shootings, detectives from the Long Beach Police Homicide Detail are conducting their own investigation into the incident.
