UPDATE  |  Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LASD) officials say the woman shot by a Signal Hill police officer today was seen carrying a gun before police arrived.

Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) officers received the call at about 8:15AM; an officer from the Signal Hill Police Department heard the radio call and responded to the area of Cherry Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway, on the border of Long Beach and Signal Hill, said LASD Lt. Holly Francisco.

The officer located a woman matching the description, and an officer-involved shooting occurred.

Details surrounding why the shooting occurred were not immediately available, Francisco said, but a gun was recovered at the scene.

The woman was transported by Long Beach Fire Department personnel to a local hospital, where she remains in serious condition.

Woman Wounded After Being Shot by Signal Hill Police

11:22AM  |  A woman is wounded after she was shot at by Signal Hill police this morning.

The officer-involved shooting occurred near the border between Signal Hill and Long Beach in the 1800 block of Cherry Ave. at about 8:15AM, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD).

The circumstances surrounding the shooting were not immediately released, and the unidentified woman was taken to a hospital in an unknown condition, LASD said. No officers were injured.

Homicide detectives from LASD were assisting Signal Hill police in the investigation. No further information was available. We will update the story as we learn more.
