A 20-year-old man and 16-year-old girl were shot at by a group of male suspects who attempted to rob them near Drake Park overnight, authorities said.

Police responded to reports of a shooting at about 1:10 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 2 in the 900 block of Park Circle, said Long Beach police spokeswoman Arantxa Chavarria.

Officials said the victims were outside when they were “approached by a small group of male suspects” who attempted to rob them and ended up shooting at them.

The suspects fled the scene before police arrived.

The teen girl was transported by Long Beach paramedics to a local hospital while the young man “self-transported” before paramedics arrived, Chavarria said.

The victims sustained non-life threatening gunshot wounds to their lower bodies.

Authorities are investigating the incident as gang-related, which police define as a crime committed for the benefit of, at the direction of or in association with a gang.
