A young man was killed Sunday night in Long Beach in a possible gang-related shooting, authorities said.

Long Beach police officers responded to Pacific Coast Highway near Pine Avenue at about 10:00PM on Sunday, August 23, to a call regarding shots fired, Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) spokeswoman Nancy Pratt said.

Police discovered a man who was struck by gunfire down in the street and performed life-saving measures until Long Beach Fire Department paramedics arrived, according to officials.

The victim arrived at a liquor store where an altercation between two groups of men was happening.

The victim had just gotten out of his vehicle when he was struck in the upper torso by gunfire, authorities said.

The man, identified by coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter as 23-year-old Long Beach resident Andre Berero, was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The investigation remains ongoing.
