A Cal State Long Beach lecturer was found dead of what appeared to be natural causes inside his office in an engineering building before his class on Oct. 17, officials said.

The Daily 49er first reported the death on Monday.

Capt. John Brockie could not confirm the identity of the deceased man but said he was about 72 years old.

Few details were immediately available, but the man had taught a class on Oct. 16 and was set to teach an in-person lab class the next morning, Brockie said. A colleague found him dead when he entered his office and shared storage area on Saturday morning. Most classes at CSULB have been moved to online only since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, except for certain lab classes.

Brockie said police do not know what time the man died.
