9:45am | The Gary DeLong for Congress campaign has announced that the Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce Political Action Committee has endorsed Gary DeLong for the new 47th Congressional District, joining previous endorsements by former Governor George Deukmejian, US Congressman Dan Lungren, US Congressman Ed Royce, State Board of Equalization Vice-Chair Michelle Steel and Los Angeles Country Supervisor Don Knabe.

Chamber Chairman Joanne Davis stated, “Councilmember DeLong is the right person in the right place at the right time.  Our country needs leaders like Gary who can work with people with differing views to build consensus on difficult issues.  I’m confident he can bring his business skills and public service experience to improve the fiscal health of Washington.”

According to Randy Gordon, President/CEO of the Chamber, “We’re supporting Gary DeLong for the new 47th Congressional District because he has a proven track record of creating jobs and balancing the budget.  We need more representatives like Gary in Washington, D.C. who understand how the economy works, will work to improve economic opportunities for all Americans, and are not career politicians.

Yesterday, Gary DeLong announced veteran politico Bill Christiansen as his on-site campaign manager.

“I am pleased to have received such overwhelming community support. Over the last several months, many 47th District residents have reached out to convey their support and interest in volunteering in the campaign,” said Gary DeLong. “Now, with Bill heading the campaign, I know he will use the momentum we’ve built and his insight into grassroots politics to take us to the next level.”

“We are thrilled to have Bill on board. He brings tremendous knowledge of both Orange County and Los Angeles County politics and valuable experience leading major political efforts in California. Recently, he served as the campaign manager for the successful Sandra Hutchens for Orange County Sheriff campaign,” said Meridian Pacific partner John Peschong, senior consultant for the DeLong campaign.

Bill Christiansen is an accomplished political advisor and organizer, having served in high-profile political leadership positions over the past 20 years. He has served as the Executive Director of the Republican Party of Orange County, as well as the Executive Director of both the Arizona and California Republican Parties, and most recently, UCLA’s Government & Community Relations Assistant Director.

“I was excited to be asked by Gary to manage his congressional campaign,” stated Christiansen. “I believe in Gary’s vision of implementing common sense solutions to get our economy moving again and create jobs for our citizens.”
