6th District candidate Al Austin seems to be on an endorsement blitz picking up the support of County Democrats and the local Firefighters Union. This is on top of Mayor Foster’s endorsement, Assemblymember Karnette, Assemblymember Richardson, Vice Mayor Lowenthal and Councilmember O’Donnell and Councilmember Lowenthal’s support.
Here are statements from both the LA County Dems and the Firefighter’s Union.
“Al is an extraordinary leader who will stand up for Long Beach. As a tireless advocate for the community and working families, he has the experience necessary to tackle the key issues of the city. The Democratic Party proudly endorses Al for Long Beach City Council,” said Eric C. Bauman, Chair of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party.
“Long Beach Firefighters believe that Al Austin has demonstrated an unwavering support of public safety in the City of Long Beach, and will continue to provide leadership as a member of the City Council. Al Austin has been active with community events in the 6th District, and has shown that he has the ability to be a true consensus builder on key issues that face both the City of Long Beach and the 6th District.”
It’s important to remember that endorsements don’t win campaigns – votes do. Any candidate can win, and word on the street is that Ahmed Saafir is bringing in some major money into his campaign. He is having a big fundraiser this Friday and some of the event hosts include- Samuel Washington, Dr. Mike Walter, Dr. Farah Naz Khaleghi, Chris Pook and Byron Schweigert. Those are some big names with deep pockets. This is on top of former Mayor O’Neill and Harbor Commissioner Doris Topsy-Elvord’s support.
