We’re a tad belated on this story (since the issue debuted last Wednesday), but since we gave the Press-Telegram‘s new design its own article we thought it fair to extend the same courtesy to the District Weekly‘s touch-up.
Anyone who picked up an issue in the past week will notice a new feel to the magazine. What was once smooth is now a bit more grainy, as the District‘s cover transitions from glossy to newsprint. As the cover itself explains, “This paper has a high thread count.”
Dimensions of the magazine remain unchanged, and the cover design will obviously change from week to week.
On the Table of Contents page, Editor-In-Chief Ellen Griley explains the new look thusly:
Here’s why: Increasingly, papers, magazines and other media outlets across the nation are laying off staff, imposing madatory furloughs and raising ad rates to offset declining revenue and rising printing, paper and distribution costs. Rather than suffer – and make you suffer – through any of that, we thought we’d try a little face-lift instead.
What do you think of the District‘s decision?
