Long Beach firefighters tackled a blaze in an apartment building Saturday evening and contained the damage to the unit of origin.

The fire was reported about 7:35 p.m. Saturday in the 5400 block of Paramount Boulevard, near Candlewood Street, according to Long Beach Fire Department spokesman Brian Fisk.

Firefighters evacuated the building and made an aggressive attack on the apartment, Fisk said. No people were inside the apartment, but firefighters rescued an unconscious dog who was suffering from smoke inhalation. The dog was treated and turned over to the city’s Animal Care Services.

No other injuries were reported.
