Long Beach residents are encouraged to spend the day outdoors on Saturday, as there is a high probability of cuteness and a great chance of adorableness.
Friends of Long Beach Animals presents the eighth annual 2K/5K WALK for the Animals – which would make it a 14K/35K in doggy distance? – on Saturday, September 29, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Heartwell Park, 5100 E. Carson St. at Clark in Long Beach.
The walk sports a country-western theme, and participants are encouraged to outfit themselves and their four-legged friends accordingly. The $20 registration fee earns you a t-shirt, and there are prizes for those who collect the most pledge donations. There will be pet-oriented games and activities, including a country-western costume contest for pets.
Proceeds raised by the event will be put towards humane education programs that promote awareness of responsible treatment and care of animals, funding low-cost spaying/neutering, and medicine for sheltered animals with special needs.
An Interfaith Blessing of the Animals, sponsored by HauteDogs.com will be held at noon, and the costume contest begins at 1 p.m. There will be food, entertainment, vendors, games and raffles all day long. All pet lovers are welcome to join in the walk.
