A man who barricaded himself in a garage and pointed a nail gun at officers was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence on Saturday night, the Long Beach Police Department reported.
At 11:03 p.m., officers responded to the 200 block of East Barclay Street near DeForest Park regarding a domestic violence call. Upon arrival, officers found a woman suffering from a minor injury to her upper body, police said.
Officers then located a man who reportedly threatened to stab himself with a broken bottle before fleeing into a garage and barricading himself there, according to authorities.
SWAT officers and negotiators were dispatched to the area.
“They attempted to deescalate the situation, but the suspect remained uncooperative and pointed a nail gun at officers,” police said.
Police used tear gas, less-lethal 40mm rounds and a K9 to apprehend the suspect, who was taken into custody.
The Long Beach Fire Department treated both the victim and the suspect at the scene. Authorities said the man, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries, was taken to a hospital before he was booked.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
