A single-vehicle crash Saturday morning involving a suspected drunk driver sent several wires toppling down onto Del Amo Boulevard, prompting street closures from Orange to Cherry avenues, police said.
Police say the driver crashed into the pole at the intersection of Del Amo Boulevard and Orange Avenue just before 11:30 a.m.
The crash sent the telephone and internet wires from the pole toppling down, causing a second driver to strike them, police said.
When officers arrived the scene, they took the first driver into custody after suspecting he may have been driving while impaired. He was only identified by authorities as a man.
Though he initially refused treatment, authorities transported him to a hospital for medical attention, police said.
The second driver was not injured, police said.
Del Amo Boulevard between Orange and Cherry avenues will be closed for an “extended period,” according to police, while the wires are fixed.
