This weekend is going to be a great one for Downtown Long Beach.  We have the Grand Prix roaring down our shoreline as well as Downtown’s annual music series starting on Friday.  The music series kicks off with the group Sapphire, performing in front of Rock Bottom Brewery on Friday April 18, while Jumpin’ Joz entertains residents and visitors in front of Smooth’s Sports Grille that same night.

The Downtown Long Beach Associates, on whose board I sit on as a non-voting residential advisor, has sent out a release with info about the music series…here are some highlights…

“Now in its fifth year, we’ve expanded our music series to include nearly 100 additional performances and started it two months earlier than in years past,” said Kraig Kojian , president and CEO of the DLBA.  “Having street musicians scattered about Downtown has helped create a synergy among the restaurants, shops and entertainment venues and enhances the ambiance of our urban center.  It’s an unexpected pleasure for visitors, residents and workers during the weekday afternoon and evenings.”

Starting next week, visitors, residents and office workers will be treated to an array of talented musicians.  Tuesday performances can be heard from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at City Place, the World Trade Center, and 100 Oceangate.  On Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. there will be performances at 444 West Ocean and at Shoreline Village from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.  Thursdays will feature two simultaneous performances at ARCO Tower as well as at Utopia in the East Village Arts District.

On Friday and Saturday evenings from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. there will be music up and down Pine Ave.

The free music series is produced by the Downtown Long Beach Associates (DLBA), and sponsored in part by Ensemble Real Estate of 444 W. Ocean, the Swig Company of Arco Towers, Brookfield Properties of Landmark Square, and Legacy Partners of 100 Oceangate and One World Trade Center. Complete performance schedules are open to the public and can be downloaded at www.DowntownLongBeach.org
