The Downtown Residential Council (DRC) announced this week that it is currently seeking candidates to fill a vacancy in its all-volunteer Executive Committee. Anyone who lives Downtown and is involved in making the metropolitan area a better place is asked to apply.

The DRC is a collective of Downtown’s six residential alliances that was established in 2009 to provide a space where leaders from each neighborhood can come together and discuss common issues. Though a relatively new entity, it is a collaboration between several well-establshed associations including the East Village Association, the North Pine Neighborhood Alliance, Wilmore City Heritage Association and others. The DRA’s jurisdiction area is loosely bound on the south by the ocean, north by 10th St., west by the 710 freeway and east by Alamitos Ave.

The DRC’s Executive Committee is comprised on 5 positions: President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary and immediate-Past President. Once the vacant position is filled, the Executive Committee will self-select their positions, as is done each time a new Executive Committee is formed.

“The responsibilities of the executive committee are to run the weekly and monthly tasks of the DRC such as PR, Advocacy, Social, and Service to Downtown Long Beach,” explains Eric Gray, current Executive Committee Secretary of the DRC. “Ideal qualities of an Executive Committee member of the DRC is a Residential Leader in Downtown Long Beach who is involved making Downtown Long Beach a better place.”

The term of the new officer will run through the end of 2013. The current vacancy is due to immediate-Past President Michael Vanderbeek stepping down from his role due to an out-of-state job opportunity. Eric Carr, Vice President, will serve as the interim-President until the Executive Committee is complete.

“We only suggest a person who is willing to put in time and is passionate about Downtown Long Beach becoming a better place apply,” Gray said.
