A trash fire in between a residential high-rise and a commercial building at the 400 block of W. Ocean Boulevard led to a brief closure of the eastbound traffic lanes at approximately 1:30PM Tuesday, before the multiple Long Beach Fire Department trucks responding were able to contain the fire without incident.
According to LBFD Capt. Eddie Sell, because the fire ignited between two buildings, “There was a little bit of a difficult access, where we had to utilize the aerial ladder in order to get a hose line between the two buildings to prevent the fire from spreading any further. But that was successful.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Sell noted that budget cuts have led to “rotating station closures, and now we have actual eliminated resources. We’ve eliminated multiple fire engines, a ladder truck, and a paramedic unit throughout the city. Luckily, that did not affect this incident.”
