Dozens of teachers and classified staff held signs and rallied in front of the Long Beach Unified Board of Education meeting Wednesday evening, demanding a contract that gives them more pay.

The planned demonstration was tempered a bit with news earlier Wednesday that the local chapter of the California School Employees Association and district agreed on a new contract after a year-long impasse.

The district and the Teachers Association of Long Beach are still in talks over a new contract, with compensation the largest point still to be decided.
