Though he started his work with the City of Long Beach’s Department of Health and Human Services in mid-August, officials announced today that Dr. Mitchell Kushner has been named the newest City Health Officer.
A longtime Long Beach resident, Kushner previously worked for nine years with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, most recently as the Medical Director for the Community Health Services Division, where he provided medical oversight to 14 public health centers across the county.
With his new position as Long Beach’s City Health Officer Kushner is responsible for oversight of clinicale services, communicable disease control, promotion of public health goals, and promoting public health issues for Long Beach residents.
“I welcome Dr. Kushner to the public health family in Long Beach,” Ron Arias, Health Department Director, said in a statement. “Our team is very happy to have Dr. Kushner aboard to assist in meeting the public health mission locally and making Long Beach a healthier place to live, work and play.”
Kushner received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Penn., his B.S. from Tulane University in New Orleans and his masters in public health from UCLA. He is also board certified in internal medicine and is fluent in Spanish.
