Southern California is home to the greatest collection of classic and exotic automobiles in the world, so it goes without saying that auto shows in the Southland are a blast.  This weekend, Long Beach will host one of its own when the Bixby Knolls Dragster Expo and Car Show rolls into town this Saturday.

The show is free to the public and will be held from 3:00pm-9:00pm on Atlantic Avenue, between Roosevelt Road and San Antonio Drive.

Not without respect for the past, the show will pay special tribute to Long Beach’s historic car culture and the old Lions Drag Strip that was once home to the most innovative racers and crazy car nuts in the country.  More than one dozen vintage dragsters will be on display alongside more than 150 classic show cars.

Live music will be provided (and almost certainly drowned out by the roar and crackle of 3,000-horsepower engines), along with children play areas, food booths and a beer garden.

The event is produced by the Bixby Knolls Business Improvement Association in cooperation with the office of Long Beach Councilwoman Rae Gabelich.  The Professional Dragster Association is producing the dragster expo.  Net proceeds from the event will benefit the Long Beach Special Olympics program.
