4:10pm | A 71-year old woman was killed on Sunday night as she sat on a bus bench, when a drunk driver steered her car onto the sidewalk and struck her.
The victim’s name is not yet being released, pending notification of her family.
Authorities say that 41-year old Long Beach resident Danita Rector drove her silver 2003 Jaguar onto the south sidewalk of Anaheim Street near Elm Avenue and collided with the bus stop where the victim was sitting at about 11:06pm on Sunday night. Rector has been arrested for drunk driving and vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, and is in custody.
Fire Department personnel transported the victim to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased.
