A 56-year-old woman was killed when a suspected DUI motorist crashed into her parked car, which then hit a parked semi-truck in West Long Beach late Saturday afternoon, authorities said.

Officials said the DUI motorist was driving a 2003 Nissan Altima north on Canal Avenue, south of Ester Street, when it struck a parked 1995 Toyota Tercel. The impact caused the Tercel to crash into the trailer of a parked semi-truck.

When officers responded at about 4:40 p.m. on April 11, they discovered the woman inside the parked Tercel.

Paramedics “began live-saving measures on the passenger,” but she died of her injuries at the scene, police said.

Authorities only identified the woman as a Rancho Dominguez resident.

After the crash, the DUI motorist fled the scene on foot, police said, but he was taken into custody shortly after.

Authorities said Long Beach resident Eric Munson, 23, was booked at Long Beach City Jail on suspicion of felony driving under the influence and felony hit-and-run. He was being held on $100,000 bail.

“The passenger in Munson’s vehicle remained on scene, cooperated with the investigation and was released,” officials said.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Detective K. Myers at 562-570-7355.
