A DUI/Driver’s License checkpoint is scheduled for Friday between 6:00PM and 2:00AM in the city’s East Division, the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) announced today.

The checkpoint is part of the LBPD Traffic Section’s ongoing effort to reduce DUI-related incidents.

LBPD officers have investigated 999 DUI collisions over the past three years, which have resulted in the deaths of 10 people and 344 injuries, according to the release.

Officers will be searching for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment.

Drivers are encouraged to use the California Office of Traffic Safety Designated Driver VIP (DDVIP) mobile app, which gives users the ability to locate establishments offering incentives for driving sober. It also helps users order a ride from rideshare companies such as Uber, Lyft and Curb.

Funding for this checkpoint is provided to the Long Beach Police Department by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, reminding everyone to ‘Report Drunk Driver – Call 9-1-1’.
