An 86-year-old woman was struck and killed by an SUV driver as she was crossing the street in Wrigley on Friday night, according to authorities.

The woman was crossing Magnolia Avenue and 32nd Street in an unmarked crosswalk when a driver in a gray 2003 Honda Pilot traveling south on Magnolia Avenue hit her at about 6:15 p.m., police said. There are no traffic lights at that intersection.

When police got there, they found the woman unconscious and not breathing and started performing first aid until paramedics got there. Paramedics took her to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. The woman will be identified once the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office notifies her next of kin.

Police do not believe alcohol, drugs or distracted driving were a factor in the crash. The driver, a 46-year-old Long Beach man, stayed at the scene, rendered aid and cooperated with police, they said. He also had a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.

Police ask witnesses of the crash to contact Detective David Lauro at 562-570-7355. Anonymous tips can be submitted through LA Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477 or visiting www.LACrimeStoppers.org.
