Long Beach Unified School District Board of Education Member Michael Ellis was formally served last night with a notice of intention to circulate a recall petition.
The Board of Education also voted 3 to 2 in favor of a motion calling on fellow board member Michael Ellis to resign. Ellis refused to step down. According to the Press-Telegram, Ellis said, “Though I hold myself fully accountable for my own personal mistakes, I do not believe that they are sufficient to overturn the will of my constituents who elected me. I will not allow anyone – no matter how hard they try – to distract me from doing the job I was elected to do.”
At the November 20, 2007 Board of Education meeting, the Long Beach Chamber requested that the Board agendize a vote calling for Board Member Michael Ellis to resign. The Chamber cited several concerns about Mr. Ellis’ judgment and performance.
