A parade of about 20 emergency vehicles will wind its way through Long Beach to salute health care workers at Memorial Hospital and St. Mary Medical Center starting at 11:30 a.m. today.

Dubbed “Operation Thank You Long Beach,” the parade will start at MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center, go south along Long Beach Boulevard toward St. Mary Medical Center.

Staff and doctors at both hospitals will be in front of the main entrances to see the first responders. The parade is in recognition of National Hospital Week and meant to honor the workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The parade will include fire trucks, police cars and more, according to officials. The Long Beach Police Department helicopter is scheduled to conduct a flyover, too.

On Friday, the California Air National Guard’s 144th Fighter Wing is also scheduled for fly over the Los Angeles area. The jets had originally been scheduled to pass over St. Mary and Memorial around the time of the parade Wednesday, but their event was postponed. A new route hasn’t yet been revealed.

Editor’s note: This story has been updated to show the military flyover was rescheduled.
