5:30pm | The Port of Long Beach today released their Environmental Impact Report concerning an upcoming construction project to improve the Gerald Desmond Bridge.

Click here to view the EIR and other documents on the Port of Long Beach website.

The $1.1 billion project is expected to take five years to construct and will include an emergency lane as well as elevated height to accommodate the new age of supertankers entering and exiting the harbor.

The current bridge, erected more than forty years ago, has deteriorated for years to the point that large netting now hangs underneath to catch falling slabs of concrete.

Much more to come as we review the document and report on its findings.
