In the city’s latest move to proceed with the proposed Colorado Lagoon Restoration Project, the Long Beach Department of Developmental Services has announced the introduction of a draft environmental impact report that is available online and will be discussed at three community forums in June.  The public is welcome to attend and share thoughts, as well as comment online.  Comments about the project will be considered in drafting the final project EIR.

The project involves the current locations of Colorado Lagoon, Marina Vista Park and Marine Stadium, and would focus on improving recreation and habitat quality, as well as landscaping, dredging the lagoon and creating a channel to connect the Lagoon to the Marine Stadium.

The DEIR can be found here, while the public forums will be held at the times and locations below:

– Colorado Lagoon Public Outreach Meeting:  Wednesday, June 18, 6:00 pm, Council District Three Field Office, 340 Nieto Ave., Long Beach

– City of Long Beach Parks and Recreation Commission:  Thursday, June 19, 9:00 am, El Dorado Park Senior Center Library, 2800 Studebaker Road, Long Beach

– City of Long Beach Planning Commission:  Thursday, June 19, 5:00 pm, Long Beach City Council Chambers, 333 West Ocean Blvd., Long Beach

“The City has prepared this Environmental Impact Report in order to analyze the project’s potential impacts on the environment, discuss alternatives, and propose mitigation measures,” said Director of Development Services Craig Beck in a released statement.  “It’s important that residents have a say in the project, and I encourage all who are interested to review the report, and submit their comments and feedback for consideration.”
